The start

Posted by admin

The start of the challenge was immediatly pretty brutal. I played 3.3k hands in the first sessions and I only won 3 pots bigger than 100bb (so net +50bb at least).

I lost almost 8 buyins during that session while my EV was at about -2 buyins. But I just kept grinding, which is a good thing. I knew I wasn’t making many mistakes and was playing good so I just kept going. Normally when I run bad I just quit my session very early (even after 200 hands or so). Things started to get better in my second and third session. My EV is positive again (+48€) and I’m starting to get almost back to even in euro won. Because of this variance I also decided to mass table NL20 and start to play less tables from NL50 on. I think my hourly will be bigger by 8-10 tabling the NL20 games instead of 5-6 tabling them, it will hurt my winrate, but the extra hands and rakeback will make up for that I’m pretty sure.

Yesterday I also went running for the first time, damn I knew I was out of shape but I didn’t know it was that bad! I thought I would be able to start at Week 4 or 5 in my training program I use for my Ipod but after 5 minutes I realized I should start at Lesson 1. I need to go get some other earplugs as standard Ipod earplugs keep falling out of my ears and my Shure noise-cancelling earplugs aren’t really safe to go running with in streets where there are cars passing me…

Tonight I’m gonna put in a little session (1k hands or so). Tomorrow I got an exam in the morning (ugh Management) and plan to go running in the afternoon immediatly after my exam. It’s been raining pretty bad once 2-3 in the afternoon so I hope I wont be soaking wet. I hope to get 15k hands done by monday which shouldn’t be a problem.

Goodluck at the tables!

Challenge to motivate myself

Posted by admin

I’ve been slacking lately, not studying any hands, not reviewing sessions, when playing “autopiloting” and never really paying attention, barely talked hands with friends (except for some small quick analysis with Jens). All in all, doing pretty much everything except for what a poker player should do to keep up with the games.

While talking with some friends on msn, my friends that play some micro stakes whine to me about how “impossible it is to move up through the stakes these days”. I have no idea on the level of player on NL5-10-20-25 these days but I’m 100% sure that someone who really wants to move up and does the necessary work will be able to move up to 100nl at least.

So to motivate myself and to have some fun I’m going to do a challenge, this challenge has 2 seperate things which both have to succeed for me to succeed the challenge.

    1. Poker related: I leave myself with 500 euro on my account. This has to be at least 5.000 euro by the end of September. All money made by playing will be counted (this includes rakeback or any promotions that are offered). VIP points etc will be counted for the value in MTT entrees they give. All of the play will be on Unibet (Prima network)
    2. Non-poker related: I have to go running at least 2 times a week, my plan is to go at least 3 times a week but 2 times is the minimum for this challenge. Incase I get some injury that prevents me from running this part will no longer count.

If I fail to succeed one of both things I will organise a 150 euro freeroll for PCB members.
